What is Hyperpigmentation and How to treat it

  • Hyperpigmentation is when a patch or area of skin is darker than the surrounding skin.
  • It is caused by excess melanin production
  • Melanin is the compound which gives us our skin color

Causes

  • Age/ liver spots- occur due to sun exposure. Occur commonly on the hands/ face and areas exposed to the sun.
  • Melasma/ chloasma- they are bigger than age spots. Usually triggered by hormonal changes for example pregnancy or birth control pills.
  • Post- inflammatory- due to acne, allergy, burns, lupus or post-surgery

Remedies

  • Sunblock- which offers protection against UVA and UVB rays.
  • Prescription creams used to lighten the skin- may contain hydroquinone, kojic acid, arbutin, azelaic acid. retinoids or corticosteroids.
  • Vitamin C serums
  • Chemical peels which are done by physician
Serums & Cold chilly weather

Serums and the cold chilly weather

Serums are great in the cold weather since they layer the skin actives before applying your moisturizer and sun block. It’s a well-known fact that cold weather and low humidity levels results in dry air that draws moisture from our skin, and giving that dull complexion. Serums have the added advantage of been light weight hence they penetrate into the skin pores after cleansing and work their magic from inside -out

So, what are the best serums to have during our so-called winter months?

Hyaluronic acid serums

Hyaluronic acid is found in high concentration in our joints and eyes. It works by acting as a cushion and lubricant in the joints and tissues. It is recommended by physicians for its ability to improve skin texture and appearance thereby giving one a lasting glow and reducing fine lines and wrinkles

Some benefits of using Hyaluronic acid serums are;

  • Hydrates dry aged skin- it reduces water loss from the skin thereby reducing skin flaking, dandruff and dryness.
  • Helps reduce wrinkles
  • Wound repair- Hyaluronic acid has been used to treat cold sores, mouth ulcers, mucositis, sun burn, wounds and bites. It achieves healing properties by keeping damaged tissue moist, speeding up healing and preventing cracks and bleeding.
  • Other non-aesthetic uses: treating joint pains (osteoarthritis), lubricating eyes following injuries, surgeries, cataracts, corneal transplants and also IBS

Juvederm

WHAT IS DERMAL FILLER

A Dermal Filler is an aesthetic treatment that helps restore facial contours around the cheeks, lips, and mouth area so as to enhance the signs of aging. Our Facial Aesthetic Solutions doctors often recommend use of JUVEDERM®, a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler gel of smooth-consistency that, when injected, restores volume to the skin, and smooths away moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds.

How does Juvéderm® work?

The active ingredient in Juvéderm hyaluronic acid stimulates production of collagen which is responsible for plumping skin helping skin look younger. However, as you age, production of hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in the human body as well as collagen decreases hence causing facial skin to sag and wrinkle. During treatment, the cosmetic doctor injects Juvéderm into the targeted area then gently massages the section to ensure even spreading of the filler and control swelling. The lidocaine in the injection takes only seconds to spread across the treatment area. The Dermal Filler Juvéderm is recommended at Facial Aesthetic Solutions Nairobi as it’s a fast-acting anti-aging cosmetic treatment as compared to other treatments.

Is Juvéderm® safe?

Juvéderm is a safe and approved aesthetic treatment by the food and drug administration (FDA) approved Juvéderm in 2006. The Aesthetics doctors at Facial Aesthetic Solutions always insist on follow up treatments 1-2 weeks after treatment so as to ensure the desired dermal filler effects have been achieved and maintained as well as the client is doing well after the treatment.

How to Prepare for Dermal Filler, Juvéderm®

Our professional doctors at Facial Aesthetic Solutions in Kileleshwa offer a thorough consultation with clients on their cosmetic goals against the available anti-aging treatments as well as the dermal filler Juvéderm options in Kenya. Juvéderm is a less-invasive treatment and the treatment can be offered on the same day if the client meets the required professional guidance.

What to Expect After Juvéderm® Anti-Aging Treatment?

Juvéderm treatment takes effect immediately and the recovery time is minimal. Results may last 6 to 9 months, and, in some cases, up to year. However, additional touch-ups may be needed to maintain optimal results. The Facial Aesthetic Solutions Nairobi professional doctors are always ready to offer a free follow up consultation to clients on their progress post treatment
